Walking up the Hokitika River.
The weather is not inspiring for canyoning, but it is the only rain day of the whole trip. And there's only light rain forcast - as good as a sunny day on the west coast!
Swimming across the swiftly flowing Hokitika River hoping to get to the other side before the next rapids. It's a little intimidating.
The bottom of Minnow Creek.
Looking over the top of R2 (we didn't find R1).
Smiffy sets R2 (12m) up.
Descending R2. The rock is wet and quite slippery.
Setting up a double rope on R3 (45m). The rain is getting heavier. Lucky we're already wet.
Looking out from the top of R3.
Descending R3 nice and dry away from the water.
A cascade below R3.
Smiffy at the bottom of another beautiful mossy waterfall.
Attaching to the rope at the top of R4 (4m).
Disassembling the figure 8 block.
Smiffy tries to stay out of the flow at the bottom of the waterfall.
Finding a stable place to pull the rope.
