Brass Monkey Bivouac Feb 2015

After being impressed by the beauty around the Lewis Pass area, we return for a trip up to the tops with a bit more off track walking. Brass Monkey Biv is in an excellent location for this and provides spectacular views all around. We plan to head up Nina River and Lucretia Stream before climbing onto the tops and Brass Monkey Biv for the night, then down Duchess Stream and Nina River via Nina Hut.

The Nina Valley Track starts with some lovely open beech forest.
A Rifleman (Acanthisitta chloris) stays still just long enough for a photo.
These birds are the most frustrating to take photos of - they don't stay still for a second!
A new type of possum trap.
This is the first time we've seen this type. It uses cinnamon paste to lure possums up into the cavity then kills them instantly and resets automatically ready for the next possum. This one is working obviously.
