West MacDonnell Ranges Jul 2016
We are heading to the East MacDonnell Ranges for the 2016 World Rogaining Championships so we take the opportunity to spend 8 days bush walking in the West MacDonnell Ranges. Besides being fun, it will be good preparation for the world champs. We get an advice from SBW's Don Finch and Kenn Clacher on which are the best parts to see and the location of reliable water holes. We plan a route that takes us from Redbank Gorge over Mt Sonder to Ormiston Gorge, out through Bowmans Gap to the north side of the Chewings Range, east to Fish Hole exploring some canyons on the way, then south to Ellery Creek. However, the weather is not nice and high winds prompt us to change the last few days by heading south earlier to find more sheltered camp sites.
